November 2008 - Posts

  • 2010 National Jamboree Update

Plans are starting to take shape at the Council for the five Council troops going to National Jamboree in July, 2010 at Ft. AP Hill in Virginia. The leader selection has now been made and one of Troop's 125 leaders will be an Assistant Scoutmaster for one of the Council troops. The troop also has two boys signed up to go. The actual troops will start taking shape in early 2009. There are still approximately 40 youth spots available. So if your son is interested, there is still time to sign up. Unlike the high adventure trips, most youth only have one opportunity to attend a National Jamboree since they occur only once every four years. Please see one of the troop leaders if you have further questions.

  • Upcoming Court of Honor: November 9

Scouts and Parents:    Our fall Court of Honor is Sunday November 9th, at 2:00 PM.    This will be at Oak Arbor Church (495 Oak Arbor Circle West - near Snell and Rochester).   Please spend this small part of your weekend with us!

    Parents:
We have only 2 Court of Honor events each year, and urge you to be at these.    Advancement is an important part of Scouting.  Setting and achieving goals provides important life-long learning that Scouts can apply to many parts of their life.  The Court of Honor is our troop community's opportunity to recognize your sons for their hard work in achieving ranks, merit badges, or other awards.  Receiving an award in front of a crowd can be a development experience all by itself!   They have to be in uniform, stand tall, smile, shake hands, etc!    And photos of those rank advancements will be a hit with grandparents!

Even if your son is not formally advancing a rank, you will find that nearly every scout is recognized or awarded something through the CoH.    We have a boatload of awards from Summer Camp.    And at the CoH you'll see pictures from all the events of the last several months .  . . those same events which your Scout may or may not have told you a lot about!    We also think the CoH provides an important opportunity for the younger scouts just getting started, to see what our older scouts have accomplished.

The Court of Honor is followed by refreshments and a great chance to meet other families.    We'll wrap up everything by about 4:00.     Look forward to seeing you there!

On behalf of the Troop Committee,

                                                   Terry Connolly
