  • Trail's End Popcorn - recall concern

For those T125 people that sold (or bought) Trail's End Carmel Corn with Peanuts this past fall, attached is a precautionary recall notice.    This is a part of the many product recalls ongoing right now for peanut-based foods and there is not any illness attributed to this particular product.

However, it might be a great illustration of the Scout Law to call any customers you sold this popcorn to, and make sure they are aware of the notice.     Chances are that they long ago ate it and enjoyed it, but they'll respect you and your character a lot in following this up.

FDA posts press releases and other notices of recalls and market withdrawals from the firms involved as a service to consumers, the media, and other interested parties. FDA does not endorse either the product or the company.

Weaver Popcorn Company Issues a Nationwide Precautionary Voluntary Recall of 9.5 oz. Trail's End® Caramel Corn with Peanuts

    Contact:
    Cathy Yingling
    (317) 264-5860

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 4, 2009 – As a result of the expansion of Peanut Corporation of America’s (PCA) Salmonella related recall to include all peanut ingredient products produced in their Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007, Weaver Popcorn Company has issued a precautionary voluntary recall for the following product:

    • 9.5 oz. Trail’s End® Caramel Corn with Peanuts, with code date markings of “102861 109 JAN 19 08” through “102861 297 JUL 23 09”.

No other Trail's End or Weaver Popcorn Company products are part of this recall.

"Although Weaver Popcorn has received no complaints or reports of any illness related to this product, we are taking this precautionary action out of an abundance of caution and consistent with our 80-year unwavering commitment to consumer safety and to providing the highest-quality products," said Mike Weaver, Weaver Popcorn Company President and CEO.

Since the vast majority of this product has not been sold for a number of months, it is assumed that what has been sold has been consumed. Consumers who have purchased this recalled product are urged to destroy it. Consumers with an unopened, sealed popcorn foil bag, with the above listed code dates, can arrange for a refund by calling 1-800-782-4255 (Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 3:00pm EST) or by sending an email to ccp@trails-end.com

  • Tuesday Night - Change to Patrol Leaders Council - Feb 10th

Tuesday's meeting has been changed to a Patrol Leaders Council meeting at Verlinde's at 7 PM.

  • Mandatory Philmont Meeting

    Phil Scouters:

Our next mandatory meeting is Sunday February 15th, from 4:00pm-5:30pm, at Dr. Rolain's office (same as last time).  It is vital we have full participation to ensure all scouts are involved in the trek selection process and have a chance to participate in possible changes in the crew membership.

We will be covering the following topics:

    1. Additional scouts interested in attending our expedition
    2. Top 5 preferred treks for each crew; thought-starter questions each scout should ponder before the meeting and be prepared to discuss:
      • How long do I want to hike each day ?
      • How many and which peaks do I want to summit, and are willing to do proper physical preparation in advance ?
      • How early do I want to wake each morning ?
      • Do I prefer more programs than hiking, or more hiking than programs ?
      • Which programs am I interested in ?
      • Finally, what is it that I want to get out of the Philmont experience ?
    3. Given each scouts' thoughts on the above questions, do we need to consider changes in crew organization / composition ?

If you absolutely cannot attend on the 15th please do the following:

    • Discuss with me in advance.
    • Discuss your thoughts on the questions above with your crew leader so he can represent your desires in the meeting.   It is imperative everyone's voice is considered.

See you on the 15th !

    Ron Razzano

P.S.   Everyone should have boots at this point and should be starting to get them broken in !

  • Final Call for Base Camp Challenge Center Campout

Tuesday, Feb. 3, is the deadline for turning in your permission slips and release forms for the Base Camp Challenge Center Campout. Forms posted on this web site. There is no guarantee that you will be able to go if you don't get your permission slip in on time. Reservations will be canceled it we do not get enough participants. Contact Mr. V. if you have any questions: 248-651-4031 or dverlinde@comcast.net.

OA members, don't forget to wear your sash to the meeting, as we are having OA elections.

  • Tuesday Order of the Arrow Elections

When you come to the Troop meeting on Tuesday, one of the events is our annual Order of the Arrow election!   The Order of the Arrow is an honarary part of Scouting dedicated to brotherhood, cheerfulness, service, and having a great time!

To be in the O/A you need to have attained at least the First Class rank, as well as spent at least 15 nights in camping over the last 2 years.    Most importantly, election to O/A requires the support and respect of your fellow Scouts - that is why we have an election.    After being selected by the troop, candidates for theChippewa Lodge of O/A do a weekend camping ordeal as a part of entering the O/A brotherhood.     Troop 125 has a number of current Scouts and Adults in the Chippewa lodge!

As you get a chance to elect your fellow scouts tomorrow, think about those that really exemplify the Scout Law and may have helped you in camping or rank advancement work.
