  • Mackinac Practice #3 Sunday, July 26 - LOCATION CHANGED to OAK ARBOR CHURCH

Your Mackinac Experience is now less than a month away! Seven of us went on an exploratory trip to the Island last month and viewed the flag ceremonies, guide posts, and barracks. We also did taste tests at the fudge shops and found the best discounts (15% off at the carriage museum!). The fudge is a bit more expensive than I remembered - about $10/pound. Everyone who wants to bring a bike is now able to do so.

The third practice is this Sunday, July 26, from 7 to 9 PM. The location for all three of the last practices is Oak Arbor Church, 495 Oak Arbor Circle West, Rochester, MI 48306. Here is the website with the map and directions to Oak Arbor.

    http://www.oakarbor.org/contact/index.html

The final two practices are Sunday August 16 and Tuesday August 18 at Oak Arbor from 7 to 9 PM.

Please bring your medical forms and Mackinac Manual to this meeting. You may also turn in spending money (max $30) and Grand Luncheon Buffet money ($19). Mackinac Manuals and patches will be distributed to those who haven't gotten them yet.

Please wear your class B short uniform. DO NOT wear jeans. Wear the shoes you plan to wear at Mackinac. (Black or brown dress shoes, no sneakers or hiking boots)

Welcome to new contingent members Brad Rocca and Jack Person. There are still open spots available if anyone is still interested.

Mr. Kiekbush and Mr. Matthias have been working hard at the menus and promise great meals!

Mr. Benham needs to know if any transportation plans have changed.

Please let Mr. Verlinde know dverlinde@comcast.net you received this message. We will call everyone who does not respond to be sure you know of the location change.

  • Apple Pie Commitee Update from Diane Iglesias

    Hi Troop 125 families,

As you all know, the Troop is gearing up for its annual fundraiser where we make and sell Apple Pies at Paint Creek’s Center for the Arts’ “Arts and Apples Fair” in the park in downtown Rochester during the weekend of Friday Sept. 11 through Sunday Sept. 13.  For you new families, this is our only fundraiser for the year and with this money we are able to fund the Troop for the entire year.  Therefore, it is mandatory that we have participation from all families in order that we can produce and sell the number of pies that we need for this event.

This year is unique because in the past we always shared the weekend with another non-profit group who made their own pies and sold them on Friday evening and Saturday.  However, this group has pulled out of the Fair, which has left us to take over the entire weekend.  We feel that this is a great opportunity for us and have been working hard, along with the advice of PCCA to figure out the logistics of all this.  We will not be making more pies than we have in the past but will be purchasing pies from PCCA and selling those pies on Friday and Saturday.  As always, we will be making our own pies on Friday and Saturday which we sell on Sunday.

By doing this we will need more man hours for the selling of the pies as we will be covering the entire weekend in the park.  We will be asking for help from the older scouts in order to do this.  Right now we are working on the schedule in order to figure out the best and most efficient way to do all this, without putting an extra burden on our families.  On another note, we are looking into a different place to make our pies in order to lower our costs.  If any of you have a suggestion or know of a large facility which has at least 8 convection ovens that we could possibly use, please contact us.  We really appreciate all your support and involvement  and will be updating you regarding scheduling soon.

    Thanks again,

    The Apple Pie Committee

  • Check out the T-125 Merit Badge Counselor List

     http://cvctroop125.org/files/folders/meritbadge/entry1267.aspx

We now have a list of our Merit Counselors available on the Web site, but it's not nearly as cool as our Troop 125 Photo Share.

You photogs need to ask your scouts to help you use the interweb, your camera and your personal computer to load photos to our sharing site. So "persevere like a baby" and get it done! (it's a summer camp motto).

hi everyone!  I will be in the parking lot downtown in the park (by police station where we help park cars for Arts & Apples) at 7:00am. I would like to leave by 7:15am so that we stay out of the heat of the day for much of the hike.  i recommend a camel-back or light pack with rain gear and water.  you need to print the permission slip off website and have parents sign and bring with you.  bring sack lunch or money for purchase of lunch in lake orion (location tbd).  please email me if you are planning on attending so i can generate a list and expect your arrival on saturday am.  my email address is markrolain@sbcglobal.net and my cell phone number is 586-507-1779 and my pager is 586-507-1779.  please give these numbers to your parents so they can track our progress throughout the day!  looking forward to seeing you on saturday!  Dr. Rolain

  • Share Your Summer Camp Photos

We have established a Troop 125 Photo sharing site with Shutterfly, and will now use this site to share our photos. I've added my Lost Lake 2009 pictures, and would like to see your photos!

This is a "private" photo share located here http://troop125photos.shutterfly.com/ I've sent everyone an invitation, so you will all be able to access this site. To do so, you must first create a Shutterfly account using the same email address you use for the Troop Web site.

Securely store your images for a lifetime—at no cost. It's good to have a backup of your photos for when your computer dies. They never delete photos
Store your pictures, just as they are, at full resolution
You also get 25 free prints when you sign up. You can also have photos printed at Target for same-day pickup (not the free ones, but this is still very cool).
So, use Shutterfly for your personal photos and then, using the "share" feature, share the Troop photos on our share site.
Of course, you still have the option of getting your photos to me and I'll share them for you.
Please consider using this great service.  I think you will really enjoy it!
    Scott Schuster

  • Philmont Shakedown Rescheduled

The shakedown event for both Philmont crews has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 19th at 6:00pm in the Innatech parking lot. We will hand out 'crew equipment' to be carried/packed with your personal gear on the flight out also at this time. We will review the itinerary with all, including the parents. The 'back-up' shakedown if you can't attend on the 19th will be Monday, July 13th at 6:15pm at the Brookwood Golf Club pavillion. If for some odd reason, you can't attend either date, please contact Mr. Scarlatelli and set up a time convenient for both. You must have a shakedown prior to leaving for Philmont.

  • 20-Mile Hike CANCELLED! Will be Rescheduled

The 20-mile hike originally scheduled for Saturday, July 18th on Paint Creek Trail has been cancelled. This event will be rescheduled for a later date, possibly in the early fall. Look for the date to be planned around the troop and Venture crew currently planned outings.
