  • Pre-Sales

Regarding the last post about pre-sales: I wanted any totals your scout had so far, by August 27th. This does not need to be your final total, scouts can and are encouraged to continue to sell up until the days we make the pies. After Saturday NO ONE can get pies at pre-sale price.

We like to see the scouts take this responsibilty on themselves, since they are not as involved in the making of the pies, this is a way for them to contribute to this fundraiser. The log (which can be found on the website) is for their use. Their count of total sold and money, is due at time of pick up, which, if you're working Fri or Sat you can do after your shift, other wise you'll have to make a trip out to Eisenhowser to pick yours up.

    Any questions, contact Laurie

  • Apple Pie Pre-Sale Deadline: Wednesday the 27th of August

Yes, that would be tommorrow. We just noticed this deadline on the attached form, and have rallied to sell a bunch of pies (very easy to do via email).  Here is a copy of an email my wife Amy sent out -- and in one day netted 14 sales! cut, paste, tweak and send it to your email contacts. The spam king has nothing on Troop 125!

     ----------cut below here----

Hello friends.....as you may or may not be aware, my boys are Scouts in Troop 125.  Our annual Troop fundraiser is selling PIES at the Art & Apple festival in downtown Rochester the weekend of Sept. 6-7th.  The OPC sells pies on Saturday, and our Troop sells pies on Sunday (the 7th).  I know a lot of people look forward to the annual fair so they can purchase their yummy pies.  The reasons you should buy from US instead of AT THE FAIR is:

    (1)  They're cheaper pre-sale....they're only $10 from me, $12 at the fair.

    (2)  You don't have to carry your pie around the fair, or pay extra to have your pie "babysat" at the pie booth!

    (3)  My boys will deliver your pie to your door on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 6th) with a smile on their face :)

    (4)  Your supporting your local Scouts!!!!!

If you are interested, please e-mail me back your order by Wednesday afternoon.  Thank you for your support!

    Available items:

    Apple Pie - crumb top
    Apple Pie - crust top
    Cherry Pie - crumb top
Apple Cake (9x9 pan, dense, moist cake)

ALL ITEMS ARE $10.00 each.  You can pre-pay (checks made out to me or cash), or give me the money upon delivery.

Any questions, give me a call!

  • Philmont 2009 -- Kickoff Presentation & Sign-Up

    Attention intererested scouts:

Troop 125 has a strong history in sending crews to Philmont National Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, and is again privileged with (2) crews for 2009.   The Philmont expedition runs August 2-13, 2009.

Attached is a presentation intended to serve as an informational overview and request to formally sign-up.  There is no meeting planned so this presentation should answer most questions.  The troop owes a financial obligation to Philmont by October 1, 2008, so participation will be locked in during September.   Scouts and adults must finalize their plans accordingly !   Several of you have already signed-up; if unsure whether you're on the list please confirm with me.

Philmont stipulates scouts must be 14 yrs old by January 1, 2009, or 13 yrs old and have finished 8th grade by the beginning of the expedition (August 2, 2009).

Any questions beyond what is in the presenation, please do not hesitate to ask!

  • The Strength of Troop 125: Pies and Parent Participation

    T125 Parents:

Without your whole hearted effort for pie production, your son does not have Troop 125.

The opportunities for you son are dependant on money from pies and parent support. As a parent, you look to scouting to help your son learn life lessons and practice good decision-making. Now is the time for you to lead by example. Do your good turn; honor your commitment to T125, through an enjoyable visit with other parents while making and selling pies.

    When you joined Troop 125:

    - You, parents, agreed that you would “make, bake and sell pies” for Arts & Apples.

    - Parent orientation made it very clear that the pie fundraiser is primary fundraising activity and all must participate.

    - If you won’t help with pies, your son cannot be part of T125.

Consider that you and your son chose Troop 125 for:

    - The many wide ranging activities.

    - Numerous opportunities for youth to learn and lead.

    - The troop is fiscally fit.

Generations of parents before you made thousands of pies to cover troop operating costs and add to the capital fund. That’s why we enjoy local and national outings, as well as a nice trailer and other equipment to support our large roster of Scouts.

Remember that we will lose the Arts & Apples Sunday pie tent as a fundraising opportunity, if we don’t produce enough quantity of quality pies to sell for the entire day. Without the “pie franchise” Troop 125 would have to charge annual participation fee and work much harder for multiple fundraising activities.

    Regards.

    Kent McCormick

  • Apple Pie Update/reminder SIGN UP NOW

    Here's an update & reminder.

Out of 60 families only 27 have signed up for their shifts. 33 have either not signed up at all or not signed up for enough. If we are going to make this fundraiser a successful we need everyone to sign up for their shifts A.S.A.P.

Below is the orignal flyer, in case anyone needs it again.

Also thanks to all who signed up for spice night, we now have enough volunteers. If anyone else does want to help, please let me know, instead of just showing up. Thank you!

    Laurie

**FYI to all, including leaders: Please read, as there are some changes and new information from last year:

We cannot raise the price of our pies yet cost of ingredients and supplies go up every year. The only way we can counter act that and still raise the funds we need to run the troop is to increase the number of pies we make. As much has we want this to be as enjoyable as possible we have to make sure we’re staying focused and productive, So, in an effort to increase the productivity & pie output and in turn increase the money we raise for the troop we are requesting the following:

One of several ways we can use our time more wisely and increase productivity will be to decrease the number of shifts/hours scouts and other kids work. We love having the scouts participate, but this fundraiser has always been the parent’s responsibility. Having lots of scouts/kids there, some of who are not quite capable to do this kind of work, slows the process down. So this means only scouts & siblings 13 and older are to participate. Any questions or concerns regarding this please feel to call Pam or Laurie to discuss further.

Of the scouts who do attend, they must work their whole shifts and unless they are 15 years or older, must be accompanied with a parent, no exceptions! Only scouts 15 years old or older can work Sunday selling shifts. If they are working parking that day please make arrangements for them when they are done, we cannot have them hanging around the selling tent during your whole shift.

Since we need a certain number of volunteers for each shift, we need to make sure everyone is working their full shifts. So for example, if you sign up 4 people to work then we are counting on 4 people working their whole shift. If one of them stops working and/or doesn’t complete their whole shift, then are short handed, even if it looks like we have plenty of volunteers.

Also leaders & other adults, if you are there just to take pictures then I cannot count that as a pie making shift and will need to schedule accordingly to make sure I have enough people on each shift so please let me know if you are there to make pies or take pictures. Also, I ask that you do your picture taking with the least disruption to the pie making as possible, please. As stated above we need a certain number of people working on pies to achieve our goal. The more people we have, working as fast as possible the more likely the goal will be met.

If it turns out you can’t sign up until the last minute or didn’t sign up at all, please still call us to see where we need help the most, rather than just showing up and leaving at random times.

    Thank you!

  • New Troop 125 FTP site for uploading photos

I'm making part of my personal web site available for folks to upload batches of their Troop 125 photos. Thus far,  I have Summer Camp photos from Robin and myself, and I will be uploading them for Kent McCormick to access.

    • If you know how to use FTP and would the ftp address, username and password, please contact me at scott.schuster@cvctroop125.org.
    • If you don't know how to use FTP and would like to learn, I can help.
    • If you just buy another storage card when your digital camera gets full ... then bring your gear to the troop meetings where I can be found with my laptop, ready to capture photos.
    • If you are old school and use 35 mm film, get it processed at Walgreens or CVS and ask them to make you a photo disc -- they are cheap and better than negatives for getting reprints!

Kent donates his time and skill to make our court of honor events fun and engaging for all. Let's do a better job of getting our pictures to him this season!

    Thanks,

    Scott Schuster

  • Urgent ** Spice Night

We are in danger of not getting our spice bags put together because we don't have enough volunteers. I need about 10-15 more people.
If you are planning to come but haven't told me, I need to know now. Please don't just show up, I need to know how many people I have before hand, to make sure I have enough.

Older scouts can volunteer for this also, but please no children under the age of 13.
If you can, please bring measuring spoons (1/8 & 1/4) and small and/or medium size bowls to use for the evening.
    Thank you!

  • Web site maintenance in progress

We've migrated our Web site to a new hosting service, and are now settling in to our comfy new server space.  Please report any problems you experience with the site by sending me an email via scott.schuster@cvctroop125.org.

    Thanks!

  • Spice Night reminder

Spice night does not count towards your shift requiredments. Spice night is and has always been in addition to the pie making/dough/selling shifts. When we have plenty of volunteers 14-16, it won't have to take til 10pm.

Also, because of the importance of making the dough & pie, we would rather not subsitute a selling shift for a dough/pie making shift.

If you have questions, contact Laurie or Pam.

     Thank you for your support,

    Laurie  lsimon-sez@sbcglobal.net

Have a look a this entertaining and instructional "how to" video. The kitchen is smaller (and less messy) but it looks a lot like how we bake our pies.
