  • SUNDAY HIKE 0800 = CHANGE OF LOCATION

    CHANGE OF LOCATION

Ok we've complete the inital flat warm-up hikes and you should have your gear and pack generally fitted. Now we are going to follow Mr Razzano's lead and move the Sunday hike for February to the East side of town.  Short hike then Bloomer stairs and a short hike back. We are 60 days from the AT - Please think about attending both hikes to prepare yourself for the upcoming backpacking trip.

Staging area will be the small parking lot off of 2nd Street in downtown Rochester, just east of the fire department, between the fire department and the OPC at the top of the hill. From the parking lot we will hike down the Clinton Valley Trail into Bloomer Park and get acquainted with the stairs behind the Stone Shelter.

Plan to meet at 8:00am on Sunday morning, 2/5, 2/19, 2/26. On 2/12 we will tentatively plan a 3pm hike after our return from the Polar Bear.

Bring your hiking boots, backpack, water, and a snack if you'd like and dress appropriately for the weather including the ability to peel off a layer or two as you warm up. The weather looks like the same as teh last hikes 29F-30F warming up as the sun rises.

  • AT & Philmont Warm-Up Hike - Sat 2/4

Weather is expected to be good for a Saturday morning prep hike.  I encourage all those planning to go to Philmont and the Appalachian Trail over Spring Break, and any other scout who would like to join us, to get out this weekend and build up leg strength and cardio capacity.

  • Troop Meeting (1/31)

    Hey guys,

I wanted to remind all of you that we are having a troop meeting tomorrow, and I hope to see all of you there!  Remember, you can't achieve Eagle by not attending troop meetings and campouts, you have to be committed!

Now, sometime during the meeting, all of the Life scouts need to meet with Mr. V to talk about the final steps to Eagle.

During the meeting, we will also be practicing knots! HORRRAAYYYYYYYY!!!  Don't worry guys, we have some ideas of how to make this fun.  But be sure to practice the bowline knot at home before you come to the meeting, and if you have extra ropes at home it would help us out if you could bring them with you.

Lastly, I wanted to re-remind anyone that is taking the family life Merit Badge to bring their blue cards and packets to tomorrows meeting! By now, you guys should be completely finished with the Merit Badge and ready to be signed off!

    Thanks!

    Nick N.

  • Board of Review, Tues 1/31

There will be a Board of Review at this Tuesday's troop meeting, 1/31.  If you are ready, contact Alex Orzechowski (our new BoR scribe) by Monday night.  Remember, you need to have a completed Scoutmaster Conference before signing up for a Review.

  • Family Life

Nothing says "Family Life" like a little nagging, so here we go!

    • How are your projects coming along?
    • How did that family meeting go?
    • Chore sheet?  Hope you've been keeping up with it over the past weeks.
    • Need help remembering what to do?  Here's the worksheet  http://meritbadge.org/wiki/images/8/8c/Family_Life.pdf
    • Bring your blue card to the meeting this Tuesday
    • Don't have your blue card yet?  Then your first stop when you walk in the door at the Tuesday meeting will be to bow at the feet of Mr. V and beg him for a blue card.

Your glorious Family Life Merit Badge counselors (Mrs. Hibbeln & Putnam) will be at the meeting this week and available to sit down with you to mark things off.  By this point you've had time to complete all requirements to earn your eagle-required merit badge.  Let's get it done!

Questions?  We have answers!  Contact Mrs. Hibbeln at (248)650-3511 or drdebi@yahoo.com

"It's a great day for a Family Meeting!"

  • SUNDAY HIKE 0800

    Hey All

We are about 60 days from stepping off on the Appalachian Trail. Only 6 hiking weekends between now and then. If you (like me) missed our Prep-hike this morning we have the Sunday Hike tomorrow 0800 on the Paint Creek Trail with packs. Meet at the Paint Creek Trail parking area a 1/2mile East of Livernois on the Northside of Tienken Road.  This hike goes rain or shine, snow or dark of night. See you at 8AM tomorrow.

  • AT & Philmont Warm-Up Hike - Sat 1/28

Plan to meet at 10:00am on Saturday morning, 1/28.  This will leave time to make the service event at the Community House.

  • Help Needed Saturday 11:30 - 1:30

Volunteers are needed to help clean up after the Great Everything Sale at the Rochester Community House this Saturday from 11:30 to 1:30.  We need to stay in good graces with the Community House since they sponsor our troop, and provide us with our meeting location. Wear your class C uniform (jeans and green troop tee shirt).  This is a good opportunity for a couple of service hours, and showing your scout spirit. You may even get a few freebies to take home! It is especially a good chance to participate for those scouts who have been unable to attend Tuesday meetings because of sports or other commitments.

Please call, text, or e-mail Mr. Verlinde if you plan to attend. dverlinde@comcast.net  or 248-515-2371

  • Boy's Life Magazine, Re-chartering Troop

It is time for our annual recharterting, which is due this weekend. This is when we re-register scouts, leaders, and troop committee members for 2012. The cost is $15 per scout or adult and is paid by the troop. If you no longer wish to be registered with Troop 125, please let Mr. V. know.

Boy's Life magazine, published by the BSA, will not be paid by the troop this year. If you want to subscribe to Boy's Life (or renew your current subscription), please call or e-mail Mr. Verlinde right away. The cost for a one year subscription to this great magazine is $12, and can be paid by check or account.

Reply to Mr. V. using dverlinde@comcast.net or call or text to 248-515-2371

  • No Troop Meeting Tomorrow! (1/24)

Due to the workload some scouts have with finals, we will not be having a troop meeting tomorrow.

    Thanks!

    Nick

  • Re: Prep hike clarification

    Hey guys,

The 1/29/2012 Sunday 8:00 am prep hike I specified is still on, but please note that I meant to say that the next one is on Sunday 1/22/2012 first.  Thank you to my better half for catching that.

    Regards,

    Bill Nalu
